About

PHIL HEIMLICH:
The ANTI-MAGA REPUBLICAN

I’m running to restore the values that made the Republican party great: Respect for the Rule of Law, the Peaceful Transfer of Power, the Dignity of Our Fellow Men and Women, and the Pursuit of Truth.  These values are threatened by those who deny the results of valid elections — deniers who spread conspiracies and misinformation and use violence to intimidate judges, election workers, and elected officials.

I believe our democracy is at risk from the MAGA movement and I pledge to protect it. We grew up learning how our Founding Fathers fought for the liberties and rights we enjoy today. That includes the right to a free press, free and fair elections, and holding corrupt leaders accountable. It’s our duty to fight to hold on to these freedoms.

Many people are familiar with the lifesaving work of my father, Dr. Henry Heimlich, who invented the Heimlich maneuver to save people from choking. What many might not know is that he had to fight against big medical organizations that didn’t welcome new ideas throughout his career — even when those ideas were saving lives. I like to think I carry on my father’s legacy by not cowering to powerful political leaders or any party and doing what’s right for the American people.

I began my public service as an Assistant Hamilton County Prosecutor in Cincinnati, where I specialized in felony criminal prosecutions, including murder, rape, robbery, assault and white-collar offenses. I earned a reputation for being tough on con men who cheated families out of their life savings. What pushed me to be a successful prosecutor was my desire to stand up for those who had been victims of crimes, whether at the hands of violent criminals or those in business suits.

I’m proud to be a strong supporter of law enforcement and a fiscal watchdog. During my eight years serving on Cincinnati’s City Council, I initiated Cincinnati’s teen curfew, passing laws restricting strip clubs and porn shops, and founding Cincinnati’s highly successful Citizens on Patrol program. I uncovered corruption in the Genesis Housing program, which led to its defunding, and exposed waste at the city-run asphalt plant, resulting in the plant’s closing and outsourcing of the service, and I uncovered abuses at taxpayer-funded Drake Hospital and worked with the University of Cincinnati to preserve the hospital and eliminate millions in taxpayer subsidies.

I’ve spoken at Mayors’ Breakfasts throughout the country on the importance of my Christian faith and the impact God has made in my life. I have received the Torch Award for Community Service from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy and the Community Defender Award from Citizens for Community Values.

As a pro-democracy, anti-MAGA Republican, I’ve written numerous opinion pieces for publications, such as the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Columbus Dispatch, Cleveland Plain Dealer, and USA Today. I have appeared on CNN and other TV and radio networks.

I graduated with distinction from Stanford University and earned my law degree at the University of Virginia. I’m the proud father of a college sophomore and a high school senior.
